The Border Tribal Council and the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) held a sod-turning ceremony on Monday, June 12, 2017, for their new casino to be located atHighway 16 and 40thAvenue in Lloydminster. The city of about 28,000 is unique in that itstraddles the provincial border between Alberta and Saskatchewan andis incorporated by both provinces as a single city with a single municipal administration. The casino will be situatedon the Saskatchewan side.
Upon completion, it will be the seventh SIGA-run casino inSaskatchewan.
The approximately $20-$25 million, 30,000-square-foot facility will include a full-service restaurant and bar as well as 250 gaming machines and six to eight gaming tables. The entire project is expected to be completed in phases with the first phase to include a gas bar and convenience store and a 120-room hotel. The casino has not been named yetbut the entire development is being called Eagle Park West. We have seen the name “Gold Horse” mentioned on SIGA`s Facebook page, however. In either case, we will add updatedinformation as soon as we receive it.
According to SIGA, if all goes well they expect the casinoto open in 2018.
