Review
The Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians are still waiting for the final decision on its proposed Barstow Casino project. The final environment impact statement for the project was issued by the Bureau of Indians Affairs (BIA) two years ago and the tribe has been waiting for an answer since then. The parties signed a 4.3 percent revenue sharing agreement with the City estimated to receive more than $4 million from the first year of the casinos operations.
The Barstow Casino and Resort will be located on a 23 acre land along I-15, the main highway from Southern California to Las Vegas in Barstow, California.
According to projections by the Los Coyotes Band and the City of Barstow, $160 million has been allotted for the project and it is estimated to create more than 1,065 construction jobs and 1,000+ permanent Jobs.
The Barstow Casino will offer a gaming facility covering 57,000 sq ft featuring 1,325 slot machines and 57 table games. The resort will include a 100-room hotel with modern amenities including dining and entertainment options, conference/meeting room space and so much more.
The application is currently being reviewed in the BIA in Sacramento. However, even if it`s approved by BIA, the state governor has the final say over the project and the governors lack of authority to grant off reservation gaming directly affects Los Coyotes proposal.
